BBNaija star Phyna has backed fellow ex-housemate Tochi’s advice to former housemates struggling financially, urging them to move beyond the celebrity label and focus on making a living.
Phyna reacted to Tochi’s post, saying she had always questioned the expectation that BBNaija stars should simply embrace the “celebrity” title and wait for brand deals to come their way.
“Finally someone said it. I thought they said we are stars and them dey build brand, and that you have to just carry celebrity on your head and wait for one brand deal,” she wrote.
She also criticised the pressure placed on BBNaija ex-housemates to measure their success by the number and value of brand deals they secure.
According to Phyna, some of the deals being publicly celebrated may not be as financially rewarding as people assume, especially after management fees and other expenses are deducted.
She therefore appeared to support Tochi’s call for former housemates to focus on hustling and building sustainable sources of income rather than relying solely on their celebrity status or expectations of securing brand deals.
